Music School : Workshops
Anyone can make music, but
often
people feel that they don't have the skills or talent to do so. Sometimes they've simply never had the opportunity or the
means to make music.
Community music helps people to
make music on their own terms. It reflects their lives and
experiences. And aswell as providing an enjoyable, stimulating and
fulfilling experience, community music brings people together
through music.
People benefit from
music-making in lots of other ways too. It can help
to express, empower, create positive attitudes, build confidence,
provide skills and open up routes to new future opportunities.
Our workshops were originally formed as a
diversionary activity for young people at risk of exclusion from school and
mainstream society.
We now also provide a
stimulating and fun alternative to formal music learning within schools.
The tuition and
workshops
can be offered as part of school learning, on a long or short-term
basis, as an
after-school club or weekend club
The sessions consist of a variety of elements including:
Group exercises to improve co-ordination
Understanding of tone and tempo through improvisation, staggered songs, jumping on the spot and clapping rhythms.
Group playing of various instruments eventually leading to performances for parents.
